CD

The CD (Compact Disc) is a revolutionary digital storage format commercially introduced in 1982. Jointly developed by Philips and Sony, it quickly replaced vinyl and audio cassette as the preferred music medium. With a diameter of 12 cm, the standard CD can hold up to 74 minutes of music or 650 MB of data.

Over the years, the CD has diversified with the emergence of variants such as CD-ROM for software, recordable CD-R, and the SACD audio CD for audiophiles.
