Information about "Backjumps" collection
Backjumps Magazine (Germany): The revolutionary pioneer of Berlin urban art and graffiti
Launched in Berlin in 1994 by Adrian Nabi, Backjumps is much more than a simple fanzine: it is a true global cultural institution that redefined graffiti press.
Born in the paper format of the era at the heart of a Berlin scene in full post-reunification explosion, the magazine quickly established itself as the most avant-garde media of the movement.
Radically distinguishing itself from classic publications focused solely on the accumulation of train photos, Backjumps was the first to theorize graffiti as a global art.
By brutally combining nocturnal vandal actions (trains, subways, street bombing) with dossiers of rare intellectual depth on graphic design, hip-hop, skateboarding and political activism, the magazine traced a unique bridge between the street and galleries.
Become famous for its massive concept issues and its eponymous international exhibitions in Berlin from 2003 onwards, Backjumps remains a legendary historical archive, sought after by all collectors for its role as a precursor of worldwide Street Art.
