Information about "Aktivist" collection
Aktivist Magazine (Belgium): The precious ephemeral manifesto of Belgian graffiti
Launched in June 2002, Aktivist is an independent paper fanzine that became legendary for its role as a time capsule of the Belgian underground scene in the early 2000s.
With extreme confidentiality, this A4 format magazine had only a very short existence, consisting of only 2 anthology issues released during 2002.
Written in both French and English to address style purists on a European scale, Aktivist refused any commercial or institutional compromise.
The fanzine built its reputation on raw documentation focused on nocturnal action and pure vandalism, compiling an uncompromising mix of pieces on trains, panels on subways and murals on walls.
Enriched by interviews with essential local activists (such as writer Macho in the first issue), it is a rare and highly collectible historical testimony that captures the entire essence of the pre-digital Belgian graffiti scene.
