Fantask

FANTASK is a 'small format' magazine published from February to August 1969 by the Lug editions. Format 15 x 21 cm. 100 pages. Two collections. One of three issues and one of four. The publication was interrupted after seven issues due to censorship expressed in these terms: "This publication is extremely harmful due to its terrifying science fiction, its traumatic monster fights, its anguished stories accompanied by violent-colored drawings. And the whole of these nightmarish visions is detrimental to juvenile sensitivity." (Opinion of the Censorship Commission on Publications intended for Youth). It seems that the censors of the time were shocked, not only by an excessive violence of the action, but, more surprisingly, by the colorful nature of this journal. Yet, it was, of course, one of its main qualities. This is very regrettable because, for the first time in France, the reader could discover unknown superheroes such as The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man or the Silver Surfer who had been regularly published for several years in the United States. Fortunately, they will reappear very quickly, despite this ban, the following year in Strange and in Marvel (Lug). However, as a precaution, the first deliveries will only be 'small formats' devoid of the slightest 'violent' color.
