Chess Set

The chessboard constitutes the battlefield of the game of chess, this board of 64 squares alternately light and dark that has hosted strategic confrontations for centuries. Born in India around the 6th century in the form of chaturanga, the modern chessboard has retained its fundamental structure of 8x8 squares, a direct legacy of this ancestral game.

The etymology of the word "chessboard" comes from the Persian "šāh" (king), at the origin of the term "check" and the name "chess" in many languages. This playing surface, apparently simple, hides a perfect geometric complexity: 64 squares alternately white and black, arranged so that the square to the right of the first line is white.

Contemporary chessboards come in a variety of noble materials: from the traditional duo of light maple and dark walnut to luxurious creations combining Carrara marble, prized for its whiteness and used by Michelangelo, or Tuscan alabaster. European craftsmen, particularly Italian, perpetuate ancestral know-how by creating unique pieces combining functionality and aesthetics, often equipped with integrated storage compartments.
