Amélie Nothomb, pseudonym for baroness Fabienne Claire Nothomb, born on July 9, 1966 in Etterbeek (Brussels-Capital Region), is a Belgian novelist writing in French.
A prolific author, she publishes one work per year since her first novel, Hygiene of the Assassin (1992). Her novels are among the best-selling literary works and some have been translated into several languages.
This success has earned her the appointment as Commander of the Order of the Crown and the personal title of baroness from King Philippe. Her novel Fear and Trembling won the Grand Prix du Roman of the French Academy in 1999.
In 2015, she was elected a member of the Royal Academy of French Language and Literature of Belgium.
